Philadelphia (AP) Sports fans in the nation’s capital are concerned about the long-term future of NHL games on television, which they say is a step backward from the games they saw on television decades ago.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that fans are “worried” about whether the NHL will continue to have games on NBCSN, which NBC Sports has been buying in recent years.
The network has been airing two-hour, half-hour “live” broadcasts of NHL and college hockey games on its NBC Sports app since July 1, 2018.
Fans of other sports, including basketball, football, baseball and soccer, have expressed similar concerns.
Fans also want to know whether the teams will continue in the same time slots on NBC or not.
The NFL and NBA both play in a 20-year deal with NBC, but they have said they will not have to play in 2023 or 2024 because of their deals with the NFL and NHL.
The NFL and the NBA have said their teams will have more time to prepare for the new-look 2018-19 season, which starts April 1.
